I love how the author describes the feelings and emotions of the characters. I would definitely recommend this book. It’s not that expensive either.

The story was good and had great morals but I didn’t like the protagonist Mia. She’s very annoying to me especially when she does stupid things (which she does a lot). Coming from an American that has some Italian heritage I can’t relate to this character at all. Also it is very confusing that most of the side characters are even called aunt or uncle. They’re not actually related to Mia but they are called that. Again probably would understand/appreciate this book much more if I was Chinese or had Chinese heritage.

I LOVE this book!!I like it that the author based it on a true story of her being a immigrant from China. It shows that life isn’t just happiness and happily ever afters. It is perfect for 9-13 years old. There is parts that might be too violent for some readers. But pretty much a pretty good book.👍🏻

I love this book. You should definitely read it. It gives you new views on everything you thought you knew about this world. Sure, it’s a kids book, but that doesn’t mean it’s something to just read in your free time. It’s meaningful, the characters are complex, and you find yourself way more invested in it than expected. And I adore this author. Thank you, Kelly Yang. You transformed by entire quarantine experience.

This book I read it when I was in fourth grade!! And I loved it Mia it’s such an interesting character, even though it was based on the author, actual story and it’s kind of sad. I mean you’re pulling out a mattress from the garbage and sleeping on it!!! But I’m glad the author is doing well. I love this book. I hope people read it no matter what they like.
