Thorstein Bunde Veblen was an American economist and sociologist who, during his lifetime, emerged as a wellknown critic of capitalism. In his bestknown book, The Theory of the Leisure Class, Veblen coined the concepts of conspicuous consumption and conspicuous leisure.
